Celebrate with a when I grow up activity!
by Sesame Workshop

What you need:

  • one parent, one child, and time for a thoughtful conversation

1. Sit down with your child and ask her what she thinks she'd like to be when she grows up. Encourage any answer she gives, no matter how fanciful it is.

2. Ask her to draw pictures of what her life might be like at that time. Let her imagination run wild! There are no right or wrong answers.

3. Talk with her about what she can do now to get ready. If she wishes to be a vet, encourage her to take care of the family dog by changing his water every day. If she wants to be a chef, ask her to help make cookies or set the table for dinner. Be sure to keep the suggestions easy and fun, so that she can take pride in her accomplishments.

4. As she performs these tasks, let her know that she can be anything she wants when she grows up!
